10 Years in High-Growth Tech
I recently crossed ten years in the SaaS/startup world, which led me to reflect on what I have learned and how I have grown in that time.
Here are my top 10 takeaways:
- Execution is everything.
- Having an amazing brand makes everything better (Marketing, sales, HR, PR, etc.).
- Raising $$$ and hiring a lot of people are not markers of success.
- Consistently digging into your performance data beyond surface-level metrics and pivoting the data in every way possible is critical for long-term, compounding growth.
- You and your team will get sucked into the day-to-day weeds. It's essential to zoom out regularly for perspective.
- You can accomplish a lot with a small team if you have the right people and focus on the right things.
- There's never a new tool or technology that solves your problems. Flawed inputs yield flawed outputs.
- You can be influential without speaking at conferences.
- Advocating for others and seeing them succeed is more fulfilling than your success.
- Behind every job title is a human, complete with passions and goals, as well as challenges and insecurities.
