10 Years in High-Growth Tech

I recently crossed ten years in the SaaS/startup world, which led me to reflect on what I have learned and how I have grown in that time.

Here are my top 10 takeaways:

  1. Execution is everything.
  2. Having an amazing brand makes everything better (Marketing, sales, HR, PR, etc.).
  3. Raising $$$ and hiring a lot of people are not markers of success.
  4. Consistently digging into your performance data beyond surface-level metrics and pivoting the data in every way possible is critical for long-term, compounding growth.
  5. You and your team will get sucked into the day-to-day weeds. It's essential to zoom out regularly for perspective.
  6. You can accomplish a lot with a small team if you have the right people and focus on the right things.
  7. There's never a new tool or technology that solves your problems. Flawed inputs yield flawed outputs.
  8. You can be influential without speaking at conferences.
  9. Advocating for others and seeing them succeed is more fulfilling than your success.
  10. Behind every job title is a human, complete with passions and goals, as well as challenges and insecurities.
