7 Ways Your Marketing Team Can Outperform Competitors by Being More Efficient

Everyone loves an underdog story.

It’s human nature to get behind the person, team or company with the disadvantage as they take on the more talented, better funded, bigger, faster, stronger opponent.

When I joined Sprout Social in 2011 we were clearly the underdog, going up against the likes of Hootsuite, Tweetdeck and Radian6 to name a few. The team had a big vision and we were scrappy.

The thing that I learned early on is that we weren’t going to have as big of team or as much funding as the incumbents so in order to gain ground and win against them, we were going to have to be efficient. We learned that if we focused on the right things and were obsessive about cutting waste, we could perform efficiently and get the results of a team with greater resources.

Marketing efficiency isn’t reserved for the underdog. It’s something every team should be optimizing, yet there seems to be few who truly understand the maximizing potential it can have and prioritize it.
